“Do You Have an ETA?”

ETAOne particular day while we were dating, your Dad and I had plans for me to come over to his apartment in the evening. We hadn’t planned for an exact time and your Dad – being the timely, punctual and organized man that he is – wanted to get some clarification (and was probably just so excited to hang out with me and couldn’t wait for me to get there). So, late in the afternoon I received a text from him that read:

“Do you have an ETA?”

At the time, I was unfamiliar with this strange abbreviation. Not knowing what he was really asking, I (for some reason) assumed that a combination of letters like that must have been referring to some sort of electronic device. You know…MP3, GPS, ETA. So, yeah…that’s how my mind works.

I didn’t want to reveal my ignorance and I figured a sort of vague answer would probably suffice, so I texted back:

“I don’t think I have one of those.”

Of course, your Dad found this to be hilarious. But what we didn’t know at the time was just how telling this little conversation between us would really be.

A Glimpse Into the Future?

As we got to know each other better, I learned that your Dad will always have an ETA and that he will always leave on time (or even sometimes earlier than necessary) to make sure he arrives where he needs to be without having to rush.

I, on the other hand, sort of like to make up my schedule as I go. I like to call myself a free spirit. Others might use the term “unorganized.” Do I have an ETA? No, I don’t think I have one of those. And while I think I have improved with this over the past few years, I often still forget to budget cushion time into my plans…or I just forget to make plans at all. Fortunately, your Dad still loves me and usually just shakes his head and laughs.

So now the question is:

Who will you take after?

We keep saying that if you are your Father’s child, you will arrive promptly on the 27th. And you will probably come out, immediately ready to walk and talk and begin achieving great things! If you take after me, we won’t be meeting you until sometime in September and you will probably come out sleeping.

But either way, being that it is the 24th of August, we have to ask:

Baby Denny, do you have an ETA? Will this be our last Saturday without you here on the outside?

I hope everyone enjoys their potentially final weekend in their current state – inside and outside.

Katie, you are hilarious! Wouldn’t that be too funny if he shows up very punctual on the 27h! or even better… a little early tomorrow when we visit:) Love, Shirley/Mother/Nana

I passed on the link to this to GreatGran and here is her reply to me: “Thank you so much- how delightful to share her thoughts so eloquently – Baby Denny is certainly going to have a wonderful, loving home. Love to all”
